Freedom Arts was founded in 1995 by William Byron Webster with the goal of celebrating the interrelated ideas of freedom, democracy, human rights, and tolerance through the mediums of educational performing arts events - both with live performances and more widely using the electronic media. Beginning in 1995 with a performance dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of Earth Day and the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter and continuing to today with a series of performances and events recognizing special moments in human history important to and encouraging of the advancement of the human experience and the achievement of a better, more peaceful, and more just world for all people. Morts pour la France today was written in this, the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, in recognition of the special role that France has played in the liberties that Americans enjoy.
